About Big V

The league commenced under the name “The Victorian Women’s Conference” in 1987, and men’s and women’s competitions were run independently until 2000.

Until then, the league was known as either the CVIBL (Country Victorian Invitation Basketball League), the VBL (Victorian Basketball League) or WVBL (Women’s Victorian Basketball League). In 2004, the member clubs of the league voted to rebrand the entire structure as Big V.

Four Camberwell Dragons teams are competing in the Big V in 2026 – our Championship Men, Division 1 Women, Youth League Men and Youth League Women.

Big V Duty

Each of our junior Camberwell Dragons teams is required to support at least one home game for one of our Big V Dragons teams.

Responsibilities are minimal. For one Big V game, played on a Saturday night or Sunday afternoon, the following is required:

• Parents: man the door and collect entry money
• Parents: to help set up
• Parent/older player: to video the game
• Players: to sit on the side of the court and sweep the floor when asked to by a referee

Big V Duty helps in the running of the day and gives our junior players an insight into where they’re aiming to play, and the hard work that’s required to get there.

2026

August 8 – Our Youth League Men’s team claimed the VJBL YL Men’s championship with a 68-50 win against Bendigo in front of a sold-out grand final crowd of more than 600 at Boroondara Sports Complex (BSC). Jesse Macleod was named MVP of the grand final after finishing with a team-high 18 points, 16 rebounds and four steals.

August 8 – Our Championship Men beat Gippsland United 101-96 at BSC in their last game of the regular season to qualify for the Big V Championship finals for the first time in club history. Brennen Burns led the Dragons with a 28-point, 10-rebound, 10-assist triple-double.

August 8 – Our Division 1 Women marked its return to Big V postseason play with a 70-56 road win against Mildura and advanced to the semi-finals. Eleni Valos had a team-high 20 points and six rebounds to lead the Dragons.

July 25 – Division 1 Women’s team forward Anna Burrows played her 50th Big V game for the Dragons v Collingwood at BSC.

July 25 – Championship Men’s team guard Jaden Lai played his 50th Big V game for the Dragons v Wyndham at BSC.

July 11 – Division 1 Women’s team forward Lauren Moran played her 200th Big V game v Gippsland United at BSC.

July 4 – Championship Men’s team guard Ben Crowe played his 100th Big V game for the Dragons v Bellarine at BSC.

June 21 – Youth League Women’s team guard Jess Del Brocco played her 50th Big V game for the Dragons v Bendigo at Balwyn High School.

2025

– Dragons Youth League Women’s team forward Zoe Johnson was named MVP of the Big V’s YLW1 competition.

– Johnson and Jesse Macleod, from our Youth League Men’s team, both earnt All-Star Five honours in their respective competitions, and American guard Sean Conway won a place on the Championship Men’s All-Star Five after a season in which he led the league in scoring.
