The Eastern Development League (EDL) is a Friday night competition dedicated to preparing young athletes for future representative basketball opportunities, including the Victorian Junior Basketball League (VJBL). The league includes teams from basketball associations across the eastern region, including: Camberwell, Blackburn, Bulleen, Darebin, Eltham and Hawthorn.
The EDL is NOT part of the VJBL competition.
The EDL provides a structured and competitive environment for Under 12, Under 14 and Under 16 players to develop their skills, confidence and understanding of the game while staying connected to the Dragons’ basketball pathway.
Players representing the Dragons in the EDL will receive qualified coaching in a squad environment, with one 60-minute session a week. Training sessions may be held on any day or night of the week, with a full schedule to be announced at a later date.
Dragons teams will play on Friday nights across school terms 1, 2 and 3 in 2026.
Players will be placed in EDL squads and be coached by a volunteer parent coach on game night.

Dragons players will be required to commit for a full season, competing in a grading phase, a home and away season and finals. All players must participate in a domestic basketball competition to be eligible for selection in a Dragons EDL team.
