Jesse Macleod led the way with a game-high 20 points and handed out five assists as our Big V Youth League Men hammered Bulleen at Boroondara Sports Complex on Saturday night to remain within striking distance of a top-two finish.
Billy Barton added 17 points and seven rebounds and Matt Marcun had 15 points, seven boards and four assists for Camberwell, which pulled away for a 78-59 win and improved to 11-4 with five games left to play in the regular season. Sunbury leads the league with a 13-2 record, with Coburg (13-4) in second place.
The Dragons made a fast start in this one to lead by 12 at the half and then put the game out of the Boomers' reach with a 27-11 third quarter. Bulleen dropped to 8-8.
Next up for the Dragons is a road date against Westgate on Saturday night (June 27).
In other Dragons Big V action over the weekend:
– Jackson Meshanic had a game-high 25 points, 18 rebounds and five assists in a 91-85 road loss for our Championship Men against Pakenham. Brennen Burns added 17 points, six assists and five boards for the Dragons, who dropped to 5-7 overall. They're in eighth place with eight regular season games left to play – the first of them against Warrandyte at Mullum Mullum Stadium next Saturday night (8pm). Hume City (11-1) leads the competition from McKinnon (9-3) and Pakenham (7-5).
– Eleni Valos closed with 15 points and five rebounds and Anna Burrows had eight points and eight boards in an 81-49 loss for our Division 1 Women against Melbourne University at Balwyn High School on Sunday afternoon. The Dragons are on the road this weekend for a Saturday night with Craigieburn (6pm).
– In the early game at Balwyn High on Sunday, our Youth League Women fell behind early and couldn't reel in Bendigo in the second half. Jess Del Brocco, playing her 50th Big V game for the Dragons, paced Camberwell with a game-high 20 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals in a 66-56 loss. Lucy Rowe added a 10-point, 12-rebound double-double and Ciara Newman dragged in 12 boards. The Dragons continue their regular season campaign against Coburg on the road on Sunday (1pm).
