Amelie Atkinson (pictured) and our Youth League Women continued their stirring start to the Big V season over the weekend, winning back-to-back games – against Whittlesea and Eltham – to improve to 4-0.
The YLW, led by Maddy Grossman (14 points) and Zoe Johnson (13 points, 11 rebounds), cruised to a 75-45 win against visiting Whittlesea at Boroondara Sports Complex on Saturday night, and then made it two from two for the weekend with a 64-53 win against Eltham at Eltham High School on Sunday afternoon.
Captain Jacinta Li had 14 points and six boards to pace Camberwell (4-0), which closed the week tied with Knox for first place in the Youth League 1 Women competition. The two unbeaten teams will square off at Balwyn High School next Sunday (12pm).
In other Dragons Big V action over the weekend:
• Zac Bezzina poured in a game-high 24 points to lead our Youth League Men (4-1) to a 100-73 home win against Westgate at Boroondara Sports Complex on Saturday night.
• Our Division 1 Women (1-2) lost on the road at Western Port (63-47) on Saturday night and at home at Balwyn High against visiting Whittlesea (93-52) on Sunday.
• And our Championship Men (0-1) fell behind early in their season opener and couldn't catch Bellarine in Drysdale on Saturday night. Storm with too many weapons on its way to a 99-84 win. Lachlan Viney had a team-high 18 points in his Dragons Big V Champs Men debut and Ben Crowe finished with 16 points, three assists and four steals.
