Big V is a senior basketball league in Victoria and the next progression after VJBL. It is made up of semi-professional teams from across Victoria playing in 12 competitions, consist of both genders and incorporate three levels of senior competition and three levels of youth league (Under 23) competition. It is the peak of the player pathway at Camberwell Dragons.
The league commenced under the name “The Victorian Women’s Conference” in 1987, and men’s and women’s competitions were run independently until 2000.
Until this time the league was known as either the CVIBL (Country Victorian Invitation Basketball League), the VBL (Victorian Basketball League) or WVBL (Women’s Victorian Basketball League). In 2004, the member clubs of the league voted to rebrand the entire structure as Big V.
Camberwell Dragons fielded four teams in the competition in 2023 and will do so again. They are:
Championship Men, Championship Women, Youth League One Men and Youth League One Women.
Each of our junior Camberwell Dragons teams is required to support at least one home game for one of our Big V Dragons teams.
Responsibilities are minimal. For one Big V game, played on a Saturday night or Sunday afternoon, the following is required:
Big V Duty helps in the running of the day and gives our junior players an insight into where they’re aiming to play, and the hard work that’s required to get there.
