CAMBERWELL BASKETBALL

Welcome, Bobby

Welcome, Bobby

Camberwell Basketball is proud to introduce world-class Disability Extreme Athlete Bobby Bajram as an ambassador of the Camberwell Dragons.

The youngest person in Australia diagnosed with Multiple sclerosis – at the age of 13 more than 40 years ago – Bobby has gone on to scale some of the world’s highest mountains and is now in training to climb Mount Everest in 2027.

“Bobby’s inspiring story is one of extraordinary courage, determination and resilience, and we’re excited to welcome him into our community,” Camberwell Basketball Communications, Community Engagement and Partnerships Manager Andrew Johnstone said.

“He brings an infectious and upbeat personality, genuine warmth and an enormous energy to our program and will quickly become a very popular member of our club. We’re proud to have him on board with us as an ambassador and look forward to doing great things together.”

Bobby, pictured here with Camberwell Basketball committee member Brent Lomer (left) and president ST Tan (right), will be out and about often with the Dragons in his new role – attending games, training sessions and club events – so if you see him on your travels, please introduce yourself and make him feel welcome.

Bobby has a long history with basketball dating back to the ’70s, when he played and refereed at the old Albert Park Stadium. He is already well know to some members of the Dragons program after speaking at a Camberwell In Business networking event last year.

We thank Bobby for his commitment to Camberwell Basketball and the Dragons and will have more to share about his story soon.

Taking the lead

Camberwell Dragons today announced two significant additions to our 2026 coaching line-up, with Shawn King and Al McAughtry taking on key roles.

King, our current Big V Championship Men’s team coach, has begun work as Director of Coaching (DOC) of the club’s junior girls program, while McAughtry (right of graphic) has brought a wealth of Australian and international experience to the newly created position of Coaching Mentor.

Al’s impressive body of work includes assistant coaching jobs with junior national teams and head coaching roles in the South East Australian Basketball League (SEABL), the New Zealand Basketball League (NZBL) and with Victorian state boys and girls teams.

Shawn took charge of the Dragons Championship Men’s team in 2025 and is very well known across the state for his achievements at junior and senior levels. He brings extensive DOC experience to the junior girls program.

“I’m excited to get back into it and to start work with the great coaches we have here at Camberwell,” he said. “I want us to continue to get better as a club, and I’m looking forward to working with our coaches and players to help them get to where they want to go.”

Shawn will continue his work with Camberwell’s Big V Senior Men’s program this season. His Dragons open their 2026 Big V regular season campaign against Hume City at Balwyn High School on March 29.
