Eleni Valos showed the way with a 16-point, 13-rebound double-double and your Dragons Division 1 Women celebrated Lauren Moran’s 200th Big V game in style with a 68-56 win against visiting Gippsland United at Boroondara Sports Complex on Friday night.

Valos added six steals and had plenty of support as the Dragons rallied from 10 points down at the half to outscore its guest 40-18 the rest of the way.

Anna Burrows closed with an impressive stat line (16 points, six rebounds, six assists, three steals, two blocks) and Moran (pictured below with Dragons official Ben Wardlaw before Friday night’s game) had 12 points and five boards for Camberwell, which improved to 6-9 and replaced Gippsland (6-9) in fifth place with three rounds left in the regular season.

Next up for the Dragons is a road date with second-placed Altona (13-2) on Sunday.

Championship Men: Melbourne University 91 d. Dragons 79 at BSC

Jackson Meshanic had a game-high 26 points, 18 rebounds and five assists but the Dragons couldn’t keep up with Melbourne Uni in the second half. Brennen Burns added 16 points, four boards and three assists for Camberwell (6-9). The Champ Men play second-placed McKinnon (9-5) at GESAC on Sunday.

Youth League Men: Dragons 93 d. Melbourne University 70 at BSC

Billy Barton (20 points, 16 rebounds) and Jesse Macleod (18 points, 10 boards) lodged double-doubles and your Youth League dominated late to turn back the visitors and lock in third place. Matt Marcun had 15 points and Tyson Mackenzie provided a spark off the bench with 14 points in 14 minutes for Camberwell, which improved to 13-5. The Dragons close their regular season next weekend with a home-road double against Ballarat (Saturday at BSC) and McKinnon at GESAC on Sunday.

Youth League Women: Bulleen 53 d. Dragons 52 at BSC

Tilly Quartel had a game-high 15 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks, but it wasn’t enough for your Dragons, who dominated the second half but couldn’t finish off the Boomers. Jess Del Brocco finished with seven points, 16 rebounds, six assists and five steals and Talia D’Agostino had 12 points in 12 minutes for Camberwell. The Dragons close their season against Ballarat at BSC on Saturday night.

Fernwood Camberwell | Reformer Pilates Open Day

Fernwood Camberwell will hold a Reformer Pilates Open Day on Saturday, July 25 (see below for details). Fernwood Camberwell is the Official Gym Partner of the Dragons Big V Women’s Program and a Camberwell Basketball Partner.

Lauren Moran will play her 200th Big V game for your Dragons when Camberwell hosts Gippsland United in a high-stakes Division 1 Women’s clash at Boroondara Sports Complex (BSC) on Friday night (July 10).

It shapes as a huge night for Moran and for the Dragons, who improved to 5-9 with a 60-59 overtime win against Whittlesea at Mill Park on Sunday. They enter Friday night’s date in sixth place and a game behind Mildura and Gippsland United (both 6-8).

The Dragons-Gippsland match-up (8.15pm) is the second game of a special Friday night double-header that tips off at 6.15pm with your Youth League Women going head to head with Bulleen.

The action continues at BSC on Saturday night, with your Youth League Men (5pm) and Championship Men (7pm) hosting Melbourne University.

Camberwell Dragons proudly hosted the inaugural Dragons Under 16/18 Boys Combine at Kew High School this week, bringing together some of the club’s emerging young talent for an afternoon of exciting competition, development and talent identification.

Players from our Under 16 and Under 18 programs were combined into two teams, providing athletes with a unique opportunity to compete in a high-performance environment. The format encouraged players to challenge themselves, build new connections, step outside of their comfort zone and showcase their abilities against quality opposition.

The teams were coached by Camberwell District Basketball Association (CDBA) CEO Ross Wignell and Dragons Coaching Mentor Al McAughtry, whose experience and guidance added significant value to the session. Individual feedback and communication were provided throughout and all participants will receive personalised written feedback to assist with their development. 

Officiated by referees Jack Stewart, Oscar Payne and Oliver Slocombe, the game was played at a high intensity and was an excellent display of the talent within the Dragons program. Players demonstrated outstanding effort, defensive intensity, teamwork, decision-making and competitiveness, with plenty of individual highlights throughout.

Team Al recorded an impressive 83–55 victory, but the final score was only a small part of the day’s success.The primary objective was to identify emerging talent, while challenging players in a competitive environment and providing meaningful feedback to support their basketball development. 

Camberwell Dragons thank all players, coaches, referees, scorers and supporters who helped make the first Under 16/18 Boys Combine a memorable and successful event. 

This initiative forms part of the Dragons’ continued commitment to creating meaningful player development opportunities and providing clear pathways for young athletes to maximise their potential.

Big V action returns to BSC this weekend for a special Friday Night Lights double-header featuring your Youth League Women and Divison 1 Women The YLW host Bulleen at 6.15pm before the D1 Women go head to head with Gippsland United at 8.15pm.

On a huge weekend of Dragons Big V basketball, your Youth League Men and Championship Men will be back at BSC on Saturday night for a double-header against Melbourne University. Tip-off times are 5pm and 7pm.

Anna Burrows finished with 14 points and a season-high 13 rebounds and your Big V Division 1 Dragons Women followed her lead in a crucial 60-59 overtime win against Whittlesea at Mill Park on Sunday.

Eleni Valos added 14 points, eight boards, five assists and four steals and Sian Gillam reeled in 14 boards to go with five points, three assists and three steals for the Dragons.

Popular Dragon Ben Crowe will play his 100th Big V game for Camberwell when your Championship Men host Bellarine as part of Saturday night’s triple-header at Boroondara Sports Complex (BSC).

Be there to celebrate his big night as his Dragons continue their late-season drive for a playoff berth against the visiting Storm. Tip-off time for the late game is 8pm.

Crowe plays a pivotal role for our Champ Men and is also well known around the club for his work as head coach of the 16.2 Dragons Boys team and with a number of Camberwell Basketball development programs. He was on court this week at Kew High School as head coach of our Future Dragons School Holiday Camp and will be back there on Monday (July 6) to lead our Domestic Shooting Camp.

The Dragons-Storm clash is the third game on a huge night of Big V action at BSC. Your Youth League Women open the triple-header against Western Port at 4pm before Camberwell’s Youth League Men go head to head with McKinnon at 6pm.

And with fun competitions and great prizes from our friends at Eastside Nutrition, BNF Coaching and SA1NT Layers to be won, this is a night you won’t want to miss.

The club will also welcome a very special guest to BSC tomorrow night – world-class disability extreme athlete and Camberwell Dragons Ambassador Bobby Bajram.

At just 13 years of age, Bobby became the youngest Australian diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Since then, he has conquered some of the world’s highest mountains, inspiring countless people through his extraordinary courage, determination and resilience.

Now, he is preparing for his greatest challenge yet – climbing Mount Everest in 2027, where he hopes to become the oldest Australian living with a severe disability to reach the summit.
