It’s win or go home for both our Youth League Men’s and Women’s teams, who open their Big V playoff campaigns on the road tonight.

After closing the regular season in fifth place with a 15-7 record, Zoe Johnson (pictured) and our YLW must beat Coburg (fourth, 16-6) at Coburg Stadium tonight to advance, while Ace Adama (pictured) and our YLM (sixth, 12-10) will put their season on the line in a winner-take-all clash with Pakenham (third, 17-5) at Cardinia Life (7pm).

Camberwell Basketball and Community Basketball League clubs delivered sessions for 383 participants in 2024 – up from 282 in 2023 – and this year is on track to host sessions for more than 550 children. Just under 290 children participated in our program over the first two terms of the school year, and in Term 3 we’ll host 67 sessions at six strategically based hubs across Melbourne’s inner-eastern suburbs.

Fixture Update

This weekend’s Camberwell Dragons’ Big V double–header, featuring our Championship Men and Youth League Men, has been moved to the Gringlas Sports Centre, Bialik College, Hawthorn, on Sunday (July 20).

Our Youth League Men will tip things off against Ringwood in the regular season finale for both teams at 11am, with that game to be followed by the 1pm clash between our Championship Men and Keysborough.

Both games were originally scheduled to be played at Balwyn High School.

• Bialik College is at 429 Auburn Road, Hawthorn.

In other Dragons Big V games this weekend, our Champ Men open their weekend on the road against Sunbury on Saturday night, our playoff-bound Youth League Women close their regular season campaign at Collingwood on Saturday night, and our Division 1 Women are on the road to Mildura. – Conway had 22 points, 12 rebounds and four assists to pace our Championship Men in their loss to McKinnon at Boroondara Sports Complex.

– Adama finished with 13 points, six rebounds and four assists for our Youth League Men, who lost to Pakenham at BSC.

– Moran helped steer our Division 1 Men to a big home win against Collingwood at BSC, closing with eight points, seven rebounds and three steals.

– Reeves showed the way with 24 points and 12 rebounds as our Champ Men won on the road at Shepparton on Sunday.

The road beckons for our Division 1 Women, who have a date with Mildura at the Hothouse on Saturday night. The Dragons improved to 8-8 with a 64-37 win against Collingwood at BSC and have the postseason in their sights. They’ll wrap up their regular season commitments with a road game against Western Port on July 26.

Our Youth League Men (11-10) host league-leading Ringwood in their regular season finale at Balwyn High School on Sunday and can then shift their focus to the YLM1 finals. The Dragons are in sixth place, a game behind Ballarat and Bulleen. Ringwood (18-3) leads the competition from McKinnon (16-5) and Pakenham (16-5).

Our Youth League Women (14-7) close their regular season on the road against Collingwood on Saturday night. The Dragons are in fifth place and headed for the playoffs – win or lose – but have plenty to play for, with a top-three-finish still within reach. Third-placed Geelong United (14-6) opens the final weekend of its regular season at home against Hume City before travelling to Albury Wodonga, while fourth-placed Coburg (14-6) closes with back-to-back home dates against Eltham and Hume City … Dragons forward Zoe Johnson is well placed to claim the YLW1 rebounding crown. She leads in the league in that category with 13.3rpg.

Sean Conway had another huge night against Hume City, finishing with a team-high 30 points, 17 rebounds, four assists and four steals – those numbers earning him a place on the Big V’s weekly All First Team. Conway leads Champ Division in scoring (31.6ppg) and rebounding (12.1rpg) and is 10th in assists (4apg) … Mike Reeves had 19 points and four boards against the Broncos and is 10th in the league in rebounding (9.4rpg), and Trent Andre is third in assists (5.8apg).

Another important weekend ahead for our Youth League Women, who host Collingwood (Saturday night) and Wyndham (Sunday morning) at BSC. Camberwell (13-6) is in third place behind unbeaten Knox (20-0) and Eltham (15-4). Zoe Johnson leads the league in rebounding with 13.6rpg and is also averaging a team-high 13.8ppg for the Dragons.

Friday night hoops

Get ready, Camberwell! A big weekend just got bigger for our senior men’s teams, who’ll host McKinnon in a Big V double header at Boroondara Sports Complex on Friday night.

Our Youth League Men, coming off an important home win against Bulleen last week, will tip things off against the Cougars at 6.15pm, with our in-form Championship Men to host second-placed McKinnon at 8.15pm.

Friday night marks the start of a busy weekend for both teams, with the YLM scheduled to host Pakenham on Sunday and the Championship Men travelling to Shepparton for a Sunday afternoon date with the Gators.

The YLM (10-9) are in sixth place with three regular season games still to play, while the Champ Men (7-9, eighth) have played their way into finals contention after winning six of their past eight games.

In other Dragons Big V action this weekend, our Youth League Women (13-6, third) have back-to-back home games against Eltham (Saturday) and Wyndham (Sunday), and our Division 1 Women host Collingwood in the second game of the Saturday night double header at BSC.
