DRAGONS NOTEBOOK
After a rough start start to their season, our Championship Men are making a late-season push for a finals berth. The eighth-placed Dragons have won five of their past seven games and have improved to 6-9 overall with seven regular season games left to play. Two of those come this weekend – the first of them against league leader Hume City (13-2) at BSC on Saturday night, the second against McKinnon (12-4, third) at Balwyn High School on Sunday afternoon.

……………………………………………………………………………………

Sean Conway’s 42-point night for our Championship Men in their road win against Melbourne University on Saturday night was his Big V career high. Conway also handed out six assists to go with 10 rebounds. He leads the league in scoring averaging 31.8 points a game and is second in rebounding (11.6rpg) and ninth in assists (4apg).

……………………………………………………………………………………

After splitting their two games last weekend (a home win against Geelong United and a road loss at Ballarat), our Youth League Women entered the week with a 13-5 record and in third place behind unbeaten league leader Knox (20-0) and Eltham (14-4). Our Dragons play sixth-placed Whittlesea (9-9) at Mill Park on Saturday night.

Conway cuts loose

Sean Conway stayed hot at the weekend, pouring in a Dragons Big V season-high 42 points to lead our Championship Men to a 96-89 road win against Melbourne University at Nona Lee Sports Centre.

It was another big night at the office for Conway, who shot the ball at a blistering 64 per cent (3-of-7 from the three-point line) and pulled down 10 rebounds to go with six assists and three steals as the Dragons rallied from two points down with a quarter left to play to reel in their host.

Mike Reeves added an 18-points, 11-rebound double-double and Ben Crowe closed with 14 points and four boards for Camberwell, which won for the fifth time in seven games and improved to 6-9 overall.

The story in this one, though, was Conway, who’s piled up some huge numbers since making a late start to the season with the Dragons.

The former St John’s University guard has averaged just under 32 points in his nine outings for Camberwell to lead the league in scoring and has been a force on the glass, too – pulling down just under 12 boards a game to be second in the competition in that category.

Next up for our Champ Men is back-to-back home games this weekend. The Dragons host Hume City at Boroondara Sports Complex on Saturday night (7pm) before going head to head with McKinnon at Balwyn High School on Sunday (2pm).

In other Dragons Big V games over the weekend, our Youth League Women turned back Geelong United at BSC on Saturday night before falling on the road to Ballarat on Sunday, our Division 1 Women lost on the road at Melbourne University, and our Youth League Men dropped a home game against Blackburn at BSC on Saturday before losing at Ballarat on Sunday afternoon.

Hume City (12-2) leads the division from Keysborough (12-20), McKinnon (10-4), RMIT (9-5) and Shepparton (8-7). Sixth-placed Pakenham, with its loss to the Dragons on Saturday night, dropped to 8-7.

Coming up this week for Camberwell is a Saturday night road date with Melbourne University at Nona Lee Sports Centre (8pm).
