Jeffers takes charge of Dragons

Camberwell District Basketball Association announced today that Mark Jeffers will lead Camberwell Dragons in the Big V Championship Men’s competition next season.

Jeffers returns to the position of head coach of our senior team after a one-year absence and said today he was excited about the challenge ahead.

“I love the Dragons and the Camberwell basketball community and look forward to putting an exciting and high-energy team on the floor for Big V Championship play in 2024,” he said.

“We’ll play an aggressive and up-tempo brand of basketball that will entertain and strengthen our connection with players, coaches and families in the Dragons program.

“I’m excited about what’s ahead next season and to starting our Open Runs next week.”

Jeffers was player coach of the Dragons senior team in 2018 and led the team for five years before stepping down at the end of 2022.

CDBA chief executive Ross Wignell said Jeffers’ return to the team was great news for the Dragons.

“His experience and passion for the game aligns perfectly with the association’s vision for the future,” Wignell said. “I’m looking forward to Mark injecting an enjoyable game style for the team, which will encourage our families to get behind and support.”

Jeffers will continue to work in his current roles at the Dragons, which include head coach of the Under 18.1 Boys team and Under 18 Boys program and VJBL Boys and Girls Co Ordinator.

• Senior Men Open Runs begin next week, with sessions scheduled for Thursday, October 19 (8pm-9.30pm at Camberwell Grammar School), Tuesday, October 24 (8pm-9.30pm, Boroondara Sports Complex) and Thursday, October 26 (8pm-9.30pm, Camberwell Grammar).

Cara Jeffers fired up for new challenge

Camberwell District Basketball Association announced today that Cara Jeffers will coach the Camberwell Dragons Big V Championship Women’s team in 2024.

“It is great for our women’s program to have Cara Jeffers return as a senior Dragons coach,” Camberwell Basketball chief executive Ross Wignell said.

“Working in an NBL1 system as an assistant coach for the past two seasons has provided further education and growth, preparing Cara for the challenge ahead in 2024.

“Being entrenched in the Dragons junior program and continuing as the 16.1 Girls head coach, she has first-hand knowledge of the importance we place on player development and pathway opportunity.”

Cara, pictured leading the Under 14.1 Girls last season, said she was “very excited and grateful” to return to the Camberwell senior program as coach of the Champ Women’s team.

“I’m excited to challenge myself in this space after a couple of years assisting in NBL1 and to implement what I’ve learnt to lead the group to a successful year,” she said. “The goal will be to build a group that competes hard, shows pride on court and plays an exciting brand of basketball to inspire our junior athletes.

“To coach at this level with the calibre of players both at Camberwell and across the league is something I’m excited for and I cannot wait to start on court.”

Olly steps down as Champ Men’s coach

Camberwell Dragons today thanked Olly Reid for his work as head coach of our Big V Championship Men’s team and for his contribution to the entire Dragons program in 2023.

Olly has stepped down from his role with the Championship Men to spend more time with his young family and to handle increased work commitments, and moves on with fond memories of his time at Camberwell.

“It’s been an amazing opportunity to coach in the Championship division,” he said.

“I think the club is really well placed moving into the future and I’m looking forward to seeing the success from afar. It’s been great with the connections I’ve made here as well.”

Olly has been an active member of the Camberwell community during his time at the club, working in Camberwell District Basketball Association’s school holiday camp program and presenting a well-received CDBA Coaches’ Clinic early this year.

“On behalf of the Camberwell Dragons community, I thank Olly for his contribution to the Championship Men’s team this season and wish him the very best for his work with the Ivanhoe Knights,” CDBA chief executive officer Ross Wignell said.

“We look forward to him remaining involved with the Dragons program.”

Olly is the Player & Coach Development Director at Ivanhoe Knights and has a passion for working with, and developing, young players.

Thank you again for your contribution, Olly, good luck with the Knights and for wherever your coaching journey takes you in the future.
