Dragons duo ready to fire for Victoria

Dragons duo ready to fire for Victoria

Great news to wake up to today, with Dragons Max Pavey and Sophie Richardson selected to play for Victoria at January’s East Coast Challenge in Penrith, New South Wales.

Max, from our 16.1 Boys, was named on the Under 16 Mens Squad, and Sophie, from our 16.1 Girls, will represent the 20-player Under 16 Womens Squad at the three-day event. The ECC opens at Penrith Valley Regional Sports Centre on January 10.

The Challenge is a concept originally set up by Basketball Victoria and Basketball New South Wales for metropolitan athletes in the Under 16 and Under 18 age groups to compete in a round robin-style tournament in Sydney.

On behalf of all at Camberwell, congratulations to both players on their selection.

It’s full steam ahead for Titans Express

Congratulations to the Titans Express girls and their coach Michael Chew – the first-ever winners of the CBL Good Sports Award.

Michael and the girls, pictured here with referee Joe Whitehead, were recognised for their great spirit, positive attitude and exemplary sportsmanship after a 22-21 win in their 12 Girls C2 clash with Cougars Crackers at Auburn High School on Saturday.

With the regular season now up and going, we’ll acknowledge a Good Sports Award-winning team every Saturday and announce it on our social media platforms and camberwellbasketball.com

Well done to Michael and the girls and we look forward to seeing who’ll join them on our honour board next week.

Have a great week, CBL!

Let’s do it, Dragons

That’s it, it’s go time.

After the most highly competitive tryout period in club history, three weeks of preseason games and a spirited hit-out for most of our teams at last week’s Southern Peninsula Tournament, the wait is over for our junior Dragons.

Yes, phase one of what will be another extensive VJBL grading season tips off tonight – the first step in a journey that for many of our 55 teams won’t conclude until the finals next September.

To our returning Dragons, welcome back for another campaign. And, of course, a very warm welcome to the many players and families who’ve joined us over the past month or so. Thank you for choosing our club and we hope your stay with us is a long and rewarding one.

To all of you, have a great opening night.

16.2 Boys rise to top at Southern Pen

Camberwell Dragons 16.2 Boys swept their five games at the weekend to win the Division 1 title at the Southern Peninsula Tournament.

Congratulations to coach Jarrod Whelan and his team, who clinched the championship with an impressive 54-36 win against previously unbeaten Wodonga in Sunday afternoon’s grand final at Mornington Secondary College.

Joshua Thomas had a team-high 12 points and William Borrello and William Boothby each added 11 for the Dragons, who secured their place in the final with wins against Mornington 1, Bulleen 3 and Frankston 2 (twice).

Camberwell had 46 teams in action at the Southern Peninsula Tournament and now turns its attention to the first phase of VJBL grading, which opens across the Melbourne metropolitan area and country Victoria on Friday night.
